Tagline: Indian documents made valid for Uganda. We handle every stage of Uganda embassy attestation – state verification, MEA and the Uganda High Commission – with pickup from anywhere in India.

Uganda embassy attestation is the chain of official stamps that makes an Indian document valid in Uganda. The document is first verified by the state authority that issued it, then attested by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and finally attested by the Uganda High Commission in New Delhi. The Hague Apostille Convention does not apply between India and Uganda, so an apostille alone is not accepted there.

Uganda's Indian business community and Indian professionals in its manufacturing, trade and education sectors need attested documents for work permits and company matters.

This page explains the full Uganda attestation process for educational, personal and commercial documents, the documents you need, how long each stage usually takes and the mistakes to avoid. Our Uganda embassy attestation service covers the whole chain, so you do not need to visit any office yourself.

  • Degree, diploma and marksheet attestation for jobs and higher studies in Uganda
  • Birth, marriage, police clearance and other personal document attestation
  • Commercial document attestation for company registration and trade
  • State HRD, Home Department, SDM and Chamber of Commerce verification arranged for you
  • MEA attestation and Uganda High Commission attestation in New Delhi
  • Doorstep pickup in Delhi NCR and tracked courier pickup across India

Uganda Embassy Attestation: Process and Requirements

Every document follows the same principle: each authority confirms the stamp of the one before it. The table below summarises what applies to Uganda.

Point Uganda attestation
Apostille accepted? No – Uganda is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention
Route State verification → MEA attestation → Uganda High Commission
Attesting mission in India Uganda High Commission in New Delhi
Language of authorities English and Swahili
Documents covered Educational, personal and commercial
Pickup Doorstep in Delhi NCR; tracked courier across India
Fees Depend on the document, the state and the route; shared after we review your documents

Why Is Uganda Certificate Attestation Required?

Authorities in Uganda cannot check Indian signatures and stamps directly. Uganda certificate attestation gives them a chain of government confirmations they can rely on, ending with the stamp of their own mission in India. Without it, an Indian document is usually not accepted for:

  • Employment visas and work permits
  • Family, dependant and residence visas
  • Admission to universities and schools
  • Registration with professional councils and licensing bodies
  • Company registration, branch setup, tenders and trade
  • Marriage registration, inheritance, court and property matters

The receiving authority decides which documents it needs. Ask your employer, university or sponsor in Uganda for their exact list before you start, because attesting a document that is not needed wastes time.

Types of Documents for Uganda Embassy Certificate Attestation

Educational documents Personal documents Commercial documents
Degree certificates (UG, PG, PhD) Birth certificate Certificate of incorporation
Diploma and ITI certificates Marriage certificate Memorandum and articles of association
Class 10 and 12 certificates and marksheets Police clearance certificate Board resolution and power of attorney
University marksheets and transcripts Divorce and death certificates Commercial invoices and certificates of origin
Professional and technical certificates Experience and salary certificates Agreements and company registration documents

Uganda embassy certificate attestation follows a slightly different first stage for each group, as explained in the steps below. The later stages – MEA and the Uganda High Commission – are the same for all documents.

Step-by-Step Uganda Embassy Attestation Process

The full process has four stages. Skipping or changing the order of any stage leads to rejection, so each one is completed and checked before the next begins.

Step 1: Notary Attestation (Where Needed)

Some states and some documents need a notary attestation before state verification. It is not a default step for every document; we add it only where the state authority asks for it.

Step 2: State Verification

The state verifies that the document is genuine:

  • Educational documents: verified by the university or board and then by the state HRD or Education Department
  • Personal documents: verified by the state Home Department or General Administration Department, or by the SDM for Delhi-issued personal documents
  • Commercial documents: verified by a recognised Chamber of Commerce

Step 3: MEA Attestation

The Ministry of External Affairs attests the document after state verification. MEA has its main office in New Delhi and Branch Secretariats in Hyderabad, Chennai, Kolkata and Guwahati. MEA attestation is required before any embassy will attest an Indian document.

Step 4: Uganda High Commission Attestation

The Uganda High Commission in New Delhi attests the document after MEA. This is the stage that makes the document acceptable to authorities in Uganda.

Note: the Uganda mission in India is a High Commission, as Uganda is a Commonwealth country. People still search for "Uganda embassy attestation", and the process is the same.

State Verification Routes Across India

State Educational documents Personal documents
Delhi State HRD / Education Department (via the university or board) SDM (personal documents only, never degrees)
Kerala HRD attestation through Norka Roots Home Department attestation through Norka Roots

Procedures change from time to time, and some documents in connected digital depositories can be verified online through e-Sanad. We confirm the current route for your state and document before pickup.

Uganda Attestation for Educational Documents

Degree and diploma attestation is the most common reason people need Uganda attestation. Employers, universities and licensing bodies in Uganda usually want the final degree, and many also want the marksheets of every year or semester.

Documents Required for Educational Attestation

  • Original degree, diploma or certificate
  • Marksheets or transcripts, if the receiving authority asks for them
  • Copy of passport (first and last page)
  • Authorisation letter, if someone else hands over the documents
  • Any form the state HRD department asks for

Check that the university's name, your name and the year are clear on the degree, and that the registrar's signature and seal are visible. A damaged or unclear degree can be refused at the state stage.

Uganda Attestation for Personal Documents

Birth, marriage and police clearance certificates are needed for family visas, residence permits, school admissions and marriage registration in Uganda. They follow the Home Department or SDM route before MEA.

Documents Required for Personal Attestation

  • Original certificate issued by the competent Indian authority
  • Copy of passport of the person named on the certificate
  • For marriage certificates, copies of both spouses' passports
  • Authorisation letter, if someone else hands over the documents

Use the latest certificate and check that names match the passport exactly. A spelling difference between the certificate and the passport is one of the most common reasons for delays.

Uganda Commercial Document Attestation

Indian companies that register a branch, sign contracts, bid for tenders or export to Uganda need their documents attested. Commercial documents are verified by a Chamber of Commerce, then attested by MEA and the Uganda High Commission. Each document – certificate of incorporation, MOA, AOA, board resolution and power of attorney – is attested separately, so we plan the whole set together.

Who Needs Uganda Certificate Attestation?

Different people need different documents attested, depending on why they are going to Uganda.

Who Documents usually attested Typical purpose
Job seekers and employees Degree or diploma, sometimes marksheets and experience certificates Work visa, work permit or employment contract
Students Class 10 and 12 certificates, degree and marksheets, transfer certificate University or school admission and student visa
Families Birth and marriage certificates Family, dependant or residence visa and school admission for children
Professionals (doctors, nurses, engineers, teachers) Degree, registration certificate, experience certificates Licensing and registration with professional bodies
Companies and exporters Certificate of incorporation, MOA, AOA, board resolution, power of attorney Company registration, tenders, contracts and trade

If you are not sure which group you fall into, send us the request you received from Uganda. We will read it and tell you exactly which documents need Uganda certificate attestation and which do not.

Attestation for Students Going to Uganda

Universities and schools in Uganda usually ask for the last qualifying certificate and its marksheets, and sometimes for the Class 10 certificate as proof of date of birth. Some also want a transfer or migration certificate. Students should start early, because state verification of school and university documents can take longer during admission season. If your university in Uganda has sent an admission letter with a document list, share it with us so that only the documents it asks for are attested.

Attestation for Doctors, Nurses, Engineers and Teachers

Professionals moving to Uganda are often asked for more than a degree. Licensing and registration bodies may want the degree and marksheets, the registration certificate from the Indian council (for example a medical, nursing or engineering council), and experience certificates from previous employers. Each of these documents follows its own route: the degree through the state HRD or Education Department, and the council or experience certificates through the route that applies to them.

Because professional licensing rules are set by the authority in Uganda, ask your employer or the licensing body for the full list before you start. We plan all the documents together, so that every certificate reaches the Uganda High Commission in the same batch and your registration is not delayed by one missing stamp.

How to Prepare Your Documents Before Attestation

A little preparation saves days later. Before you hand over your documents:

  1. Check names: your name must be spelled the same way on every certificate and on your passport.
  2. Check the version: use the final degree, not a provisional certificate, unless the receiving authority accepts it.
  3. Check condition: torn, laminated or faded certificates can be refused; ask the issuing body for a duplicate if needed.
  4. Collect the full set: if marksheets are needed, attest them together with the degree.
  5. Keep copies: scan every document before sending it, front and back.
  6. Confirm the purpose: the purpose in Uganda decides which documents and stages are needed.

Laminated certificates deserve a special mention: many state departments cannot stamp the back of a laminated document. If your degree is laminated, tell us before pickup so that we can check whether it can be accepted.

Documents Required for Uganda Embassy Attestation

Item Why it is needed
Original document The document to be attested
Passport copy Confirms the identity of the document holder
Authorisation letter Allows us to submit on your behalf
Purpose and receiving authority Decides which documents and stages are needed
Company letterhead letter (commercial documents) Some missions ask for the purpose and signatory details

We send you the exact list for your document and state before pickup, because requirements can change.

Is Apostille Accepted in Uganda?

No. Uganda is not a party to the Hague Apostille Convention, so an MEA apostille on its own is not accepted there. Indian documents need full attestation: state verification, MEA attestation and the Uganda High Commission. If someone offers you an apostille for Uganda, it will not work.

Point Apostille Uganda embassy attestation
Used for Hague countries where the Convention applies with India Uganda and other non-Hague countries
Stages in India State verification, MEA apostille State verification, MEA attestation, Uganda High Commission
After India Nothing Any further step the receiving authority asks for
Proof MEA apostille sticker Stamps of each authority

Important Notes for Uganda

English is used officially in Uganda, so documents issued in English usually do not need a translation. Some offices may still ask for one in English and Swahili; check with the receiving authority.

Always ask the receiving authority in Uganda whether it also needs a final stamp after the document arrives, because some departments ask for an additional authentication by their own ministry.

How Long Does Uganda Embassy Attestation Take?

Stage Indicative time
State verification (HRD, Home Department, SDM or Chamber) About 3–10 working days, depending on the state
MEA attestation About 2–4 working days
Uganda High Commission attestation Depends on the mission; usually a few working days
Translation (if needed) 1–3 working days

These timelines are indicative only. Public holidays, embassy holidays and queries from any authority can change them. We confirm the timeline for your document before you send it.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Getting an apostille instead of attestation – Uganda needs the embassy stage
  • Skipping state verification – MEA will not attest a document that the state has not verified
  • Name mismatch between the certificate and the passport
  • Attesting copies instead of originals where the authority wants originals
  • Missing marksheets when the employer or university asked for them
  • Ignoring translation rules in the receiving country
  • Using unofficial agents who cannot show the stamp of every stage

Signs of a Genuine Uganda Attestation

Fake stamps do appear in the market, and they are usually discovered only when the document reaches Uganda. A genuine Uganda attestation shows the stamp or sticker of each authority in order, each with a signature, date and reference number where the authority uses one. MEA attestation carries MEA's own stamp, and the Uganda High Commission stamp appears only after it. Be careful of anyone who promises to skip the state stage or to get the embassy stamp without MEA, because no genuine route works that way.

After Your Documents Are Attested

When your documents come back, check that every stage is present in the right order: the state stamp, the MEA stamp and the Uganda High Commission stamp. Make colour scans of every page, including the back of each document, because employers and visa offices in Uganda often ask for copies first and see the originals later. Store the scans somewhere safe online, so that you can share them quickly if an office asks again.

Keep the attested originals safe and carry them with you when you travel. Do not laminate attested documents, and do not write on them. If you later need the same document for another country, it may need a different route, so ask us before using it again.

Trusted Uganda Embassy Attestation Services in India

Pro Attestation helps students, professionals, families and companies with Uganda embassy attestation for documents that will be used in Uganda. Because Uganda is not covered by the Hague Apostille Convention with India, an apostille alone is not enough; every document needs state verification, MEA attestation and the stamp of the Uganda High Commission in New Delhi.

Our Uganda embassy attestation service starts with a simple check of your document, the state that issued it and the purpose in Uganda. Educational documents such as degrees, diplomas and marksheets are verified by the state HRD or Education Department, personal documents such as birth, marriage and police clearance certificates by the Home Department or the SDM, and commercial documents by a Chamber of Commerce. We arrange every stage, so you do not need to visit any office in person.

For Uganda embassy certificate attestation, we check that names match your passport, that marksheets are included when the receiving authority wants them and that the latest version of each certificate is used. For Uganda certificate attestation of company documents, we plan the certificate of incorporation, MOA, AOA, board resolution and power of attorney together, so that the set moves through each authority in the same batch.

English is used officially in Uganda, so documents issued in English usually do not need a translation. Some offices may still ask for one in English and Swahili; check with the receiving authority.

Professionals such as doctors, nurses, engineers and teachers often need more than one certificate attested for licensing in Uganda, and students usually need their school and university documents together. We read the request you received, list every document that needs attestation and plan them as one set, so that nothing is missed and every certificate reaches the Uganda High Commission together. Before pickup, we also check names, versions and the condition of each document, because these small details cause most rejections. When your documents come back, we share photos of every stamp so you can confirm that the state, MEA and Uganda High Commission stages are all present and in the right order.

Whether you need Uganda attestation for an employment visa, a family visa, university admission, professional registration or business, you get stage-wise WhatsApp updates and photos of every stamp. Your documents move only through tracked couriers, and we offer free doorstep pickup across Delhi NCR and courier pickup from every city in India. Clients living abroad can courier documents to our New Delhi office or authorise a family member. If you are already in Uganda and need a document from India, a family member can hand it over to us and we return it to them once every stage is complete.

Fees depend on the document, the state and the route, so we do not publish fixed amounts; our team shares the exact total after reviewing your documents. Serving clients since 2015, Pro Attestation Services is based at Office No. S204, Balaji Building, Corner Market, Malviya Nagar, New Delhi 110017.
